چکیده

This teaching note starts with a demonstration of a straightforward procedure using Mplus Version 6 to produce a bias-corrected (BC) bootstrap confidence interval for testing a specific mediation effect in a complex latent variable model. The procedure is extended to constructing a BC bootstrap confidence interval for the difference between two specific mediation effects. The extended procedure not only tells whether the strengths of any direct and mediation effects or any two specific mediation effects in a latent variable model are significantly different but also provides an estimate and a confidence interval for the difference. However, the Mplus procedures do not allow the estimation of a BC bootstrap confidence interval for the difference between two standardized mediation effects. This teaching note thus demonstrates the LISREL procedures for constructing BC confidence intervals for specific standardized mediation effects and for comparing two standardized mediation effects. Finally, procedures combining Mplus and PRELIS are demonstrated for constructing BC bootstrap confidence intervals for the difference between the between-part and within-part path coefficients in multilevel models and for examining models with interactions of latent variables.

Power Analysis for Complex Mediational Designs Using Monte Carlo Methods.

Applied researchers often include mediation effects in applications of advanced methods such as latent variable models and linear growth curve models. Guidance on how to estimate statistical power to detect mediation for these models has not yet been addressed in the literature. We describe a general framework for power analyses for complex mediational models. The approach is based on the well ...

The trade-off between accuracy and precision in latent variable models of mediation processes.

Social psychologists place high importance on understanding mechanisms and frequently employ mediation analyses to shed light on the process underlying an effect. Such analyses can be conducted with observed variables (e.g., a typical regression approach) or latent variables (e.g., a structural equation modeling approach), and choosing between these methods can be a more complex and consequenti...

General Random Effect Latent Variable Modeling: Random Subjects, Items, Contexts, and Parameters

Bayesian methodology can be used to estimate cluster specific structural equation models with two-level data where all measurement and structural coefficients, including intercepts, factor loadings and regression coefficients can be estimated as cluster level random effects rather than fixed parameters. Bayesian methodology is also well-suited for estimating latent variable models where subject...

Multilevel and Latent Variable Modeling with Composite Links and Exploded Likelihoods

Composite links and exploded likelihoods are powerful yet simple tools for specifying a wide range of latent variable models. Using multivariate generalized linear latent variable models to measure the difference in event count for stranded marine animals

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: The classification of marine animals as protected species makes data and information on them to be very important. Therefore, this led to the need to retrieve and understand the data on the event counts for stranded marine animals based on location emergence, number of individuals, behavior, and threats to their presence. Whales are g...
